Jewish Belgrade tour

Jewish Heritage in Belgrade - Sightseeing Tour

Tour Description

In otherwise quite complex history of Serbia there is hardly a greater discrepancy then the one in size of Belgrade Jewish community and its importance for development and flourishing of the city and the entire state. Jews have continuously lived in Belgrade since the 16th Century and have played a huge role in struggle for national liberation of Serbia, creation of Yugoslavia, flourishing of local economy and culture. Trails of Jewish civilizational influences are so strong that not even the Holocaust/Shoah, and the murder of almost 90% of Serbian Jews in the WWII could not erase them. This tour is created with mission to introduce you to very rich Jewish cultural and religious heritage in Belgrade but also to preserve memory and give respect to the victims. Our guides, professional historians versed in Jewish history, will introduce you to every aspect of Jewish history in Belgrade and help you understand the huge importance this small community had in overall progress of Serbian nation and state.
