Tour Description

In 19th and first half of 20th Century Serbia was ruled by Karadjordjević dynasty, whose members led the nation during the struggle for national liberation and unification, the Great War and interwar period. Topola region in central Serbia is the place where the dynasty originated from and where its strongest stronghold was. It is also a place of long winemaking tradition and some of the best cellars in the state. Join us on this interesting and history oriented half-day tour, get introduced to Serbian and Yugoslav history, visit St. George Church, the dynasty’s mausoleum and one of the most beautiful and richest decorated Orthodox Churches made in 20th Century. We will visit Karadjordje’s town, a place where First Serbian Uprising against the Ottomans were coordinated from by the dynasty’s founder himself; the magnificent mausoleum, King Peter’s house (now a museum) and winery. Our highly enthusiastic guides, historians by education, will tell you all the details, stories and anecdotes you may be interested in, enhancing your knowledge and understand of Serbian and Balkans history. After this experience you will have a traditional lunch in one of the best local restaurants, and at the end, the wine tasting at Aleksandrović, probably the best and most prestigious Serbian winery!
